The Black Women In Comedy Festival was born out of rage. For decades of being left out, unseen and overlooked in the industry, we decided it was time to have something of our own. The festival will take place over a her-larious (5) five day Juneteenth celebration this summer in Brooklyn, NY. We will showcase some of the best, brightest and funniest black women, those who identify as women, and those from the LGBTQ community.
In 2019, the BWIC Fest exceeded all of our expectations. We had sold out shows, industry reps were present and a whole lot of hugging, laughing, & networking. Coco Fresh was selected by TruTv reps and appeared on there show “Laff Tracks” while Reece Cotton, Nonye Brown-West, and Franqi French received opportunities to audition for JFL (Just For Laughs) auditions. We had plenty of amazing things happen and we have more in store for 2021.
With an emphasis on all facets of comedy, our goal is to create opportunities for Black Women to be seen, heard, and influential in changing the narrative while simultaneously empowering our “sisterhood” to look out for one another in a safe and nurturing environment where we get to shine.
Submissions for 2022 will open on Black Friday!!
